2023: Abia Deputy Governor Joins Governorship Race
The Deputy Governor of Abia State, Ude Oko Chukwu, has joined the race to succeed his principal, Governor Okezie Ikpeazu in 2023.
Speaking at an event on Friday in Umuahia, Chukwu declared his intention to become the next governor of the South-East state under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
He stated that if elected in 2023, his government would focus on security, economy, education, healthcare, urban renewal and road infrastructure.
Chukuwu disclosed that he is competent and capable of leading the state, having served in different capacities.
He said: “I want to offer convenient service to Abians having learned the lesson in areas we have not done well and to better the lot of Abians and where we have done well, to improve on it.
“Hopefully, we will end up stronger than when we started. It will be unfair not to give back to Abians what they have given to me.
“I understand what it means to run the state. It is not a tea party and I will use governance to better the state. I will lead and serve the state in good faith.”
Responding, the Abia State PDP chairman, Alwell Okere, said the party would provide a level playground to all aspirants and be fair to them.
Okere explained that the party executives have provided a zoning system entirely voted for by members, saying that the zoning was done in good faith.
