2023: Ambode Set To Make A Return In Lagos
Former Lagos State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode is set to make a return to the mainstream of Lagos State politics, Naija News reports.
This was confirmed by the chairman of the Akinwunmi Ambode Campaign Group, Olawale Oluwo on Tuesday during a television interview.
Ambode has been away from major public and political events since losing out in a second-term bid to the incumbent Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu in 2019.
But according to Oluwo, a former Lagos Commissioner, while speaking on Tuesday during an interview appearance on Arise TV, Ambode is set to reveal his 2023 plans before the current week runs out.
He said the former Lagos State Governor still has some days left to pick up the forms for the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The campaign chairman however didn’t state which elective position Ambode may be gunning for.
“Governor Ambode will announce his plans within the week. I think the closing for the sale of forms is Friday,” Oluwo said.
Speaking on the purported ban of the Ambode campaign group by the Lagos APC, Oluwo said nothing of such has happened.
He added that those making declarations about the ban of the Ambode group are only making reckless statements, pointing out that the constitution of Nigeria guarantees their freedom of association as even President Muhammadu Buhari can’t just ban their association for no just reason.
“Even the president of Nigeria, can he ban an association? When the constitution of Nigeria says that there is freedom of association. We are all members of the party (APC),” he said.
“To be able to ban an association, there is a process and there must be probable cause that the association is engaging in criminality or treason or bad things that threaten the security of the state. The president himself or the authorities will have to go to court and get an order to proscribe.
“Nobody can use saliva and ban any association because it is guaranteed by the constitution. That statement by the APC PRO that AMGO has been banned is a completely reckless statement.”
