2023: Ayu Should Resign To End PDP Crisis – Ohuabunwa

A former presidential aspirant on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, Sam Ohuabunwa, said the resignation of the National Chairman, Iyorchia Ayu, is the only remedy to the crisis rocking the party.

Ohuabunwa stated that the resignation of the chairman of the party’s Board of Trustees, Walid Jibrin, was not enough to appease Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State and his allies.

Naija News recalls that Jibrin resigned last Thursday at the 97th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja.

Jibrin disclosed that he resigned to ensure that the party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, emerges as the next president of Nigeria in 2023.

Following Jibrin’s resignation, former Senate President, Adolphus Wabara emerged as the new PDP BoT Chairman of the opposition party.

However, there were insinuations that Jibrin’s resignation was part of moves to pacify aggrieved southern members calling for the removal of Ayu.

In a chat with The Punch, Ohuabunwa said Jibrin’s resignation was not enough to pacify aggrieved party members in the South.

The PDP chieftain stated that the South wants inclusiveness, equity and fair play, stressing that anything short of these would not be accepted.

He, however, said Jibrin has shown himself as an honourable man who is sensitive to the diversity of the nation and wants to reconcile the party.

The former presidential aspirant added that Jibrin’s action would improve the chances of the party winning the presidential election.

He said, “No way! But Walid Jibrin has shown himself as an honourable man who is sensitive to the diversity of our nation and wants to reconcile the party and improve the chances of the party winning the presidential election. What the South wants are inclusiveness, equity and fair play.
