2023: Details Of Meeting Between APC Governors And NWC Emerge

The details of the meeting between Governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the National Working Committee of the party have emerged.

Recall that the APC governors had earlier met with President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa to get his support on the zoning of the party’s presidential ticket to the South.

Later the governors met with the NWC of the ruling party on Monday night to discuss the consensus candidate ahead of the Special Convention for its presidential primary election.

According to Abubakar Kyari, Vice Chairman of APC North, the discussions on the consensus candidate would continue on Tuesday night at the Abuja residence of the party’s National Chairman, Abdullahi Adamu.

Kyari made the disclosure in a chat with newsmen on Monday night in Abuja, at the end of a closed-door meeting between the APC Governors and the NWC.

He said the possibility of the party coming up with a consensus candidate before the primaries, could therefore not be ruled out.

Meanwhile, President Muhammadu Buhari has reportedly directed the APC Governors to reduce the names of presidential aspirants to three.

Naija News reports that President Buhari is expected to select a consensus candidate from the list of names submitted to him.

The APC governors had earlier submitted the names of five presidential aspirants to the President ahead of the party’s presidential primary slated for today (Tuesday).

It was learned that the Progressives Governors Forum submitted the five names to the President in the early hours of Tuesday.

The names included on the list are Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo, former governor of Lagos State, Bola Tinubu, Governor Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti State, Rotimi Amaechi, former Minister of Transportation, and Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi State.
