2023: Details Of Ortom’s Meeting With Jonathan Emerge
The details of the meeting between Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State and the former Nigerian President, Goodluck Jonathan have emerged.
Naija News had reported that the two chieftains of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) met at the residence of the former President in Abuja on Tuesday.
A source privy to the meeting has told The Guardian that Ortom, a member of the PDP Convention Planning Committee, visited Jonathan to persuade him to attend the party’s special convention and presidential primary fixed for May 28 and 29 in Abuja.
The source said the former president has not attended any PDP event since he lost the 2015 presidential election and has also failed to interact with the party leadership.
According to the source, the visit was part of moves to counter the allegations that the former president was on his way to joining the All Progressives Congress (APC) and becoming the party’s consensus presidential candidate.
Also explaining what was discussed during the meeting, the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Ortom, Nathaniel Ikyur said the discussion between the two leaders focused on how to strengthen the PDP ahead of the 2023 general elections.
“They met in a bid to strengthen the PDP family ahead of the 2023 general elections,” he said.
Naija News recalls that Ortom was the Minister of State, Trade and Investment under the administration of Jonathan.
