2023: Nigerians Have To Be Careful – NEF Spokesman

The spokesperson of the Northern Elders Forum (NEF), Hakeem Baba-Ahmed on Wednesday submitted that Nigerians have their own share of the blame for the current state of the nation.

He said the situation in Nigeria is what it is because the people elected bad leaders who only care about themselves.

Baba-Ahmed, therefore, cautioned that Nigerians must be careful to elect good leaders in 2023 so the experiences would not be worse than what is currently obtainable.

Naija News reports he spoke with journalists in Kaduna State on the sidelines of a pre-workers day event organized by the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) in the state.

“We elect poor leaders. I think it is not their fault but also our fault too,” he said.

“Something is wrong with us as a country. We don’t elect good leaders who care about the country, instead, we elect leaders who only care about themselves.

“Nigerians have to be careful. (It is) either we elect good leaders in 2023 or those who will come will be worse than the present crop of leaders,” he added.

Also, the NEF spokesperson said the recent controversy generated by the Chairman of the forum, Ango Abdullahi when he announced the purported endorsement of some aspirants as consensus candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party has not caused friction in the group.

He clarified that what Abdullahi did was a personal endorsement and not the position of the forum.

Baba-Ahmed added that what happened has not caused any disagreement within the group and Abdullahi remains the forum’s well-respected leader who has the confidence of all members.

“We are loyal him (Abdullahi),” the spokesperson said.

“What he did on the consensus was a good thing. What he wanted to do is very clear. He did what he did as Professor Ango Abdullahi and not as a convener or Chairman of the Northern Elders Forum.”

“But we are not against him. He’s a highly respected Nigerian. He’s committed to good governance. We are loyal to him.

“There’s has never been a crack in the Northern Elders Forum and there will never be a crack. Our leader is Professor Ango Abdullahi. He is respected.”
