2023: Owokoniran Speaks On Joining Lagos Governorship Race

A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Rahman Owokoniran, has denied rumours claiming that he is planning to join the Lagos State governorship race in 2023.

In a statement he personally signed on Tuesday, Owokoniran said his immediate focus is to work for unity and the stability of the party in the state and in the South West region.

The PDP General Secretary Southwest Zone said a united party would ensure that Nigerians are delivered from bad governance and the anti-people policies inflicted on them by the All Progressives Congress (APC) governments at all levels.

The former Lagos commissioner asserted that the PDP as a party cannot afford to lose focus and disappoint Nigerians in the 2023 general elections.

He said: “I have not shown interest in contesting the governorship election of Lagos State. Working for the unity of the party, especially with the election year 2023 very close, takes primacy over every other consideration right now.

“With a united PDP, we will be able to answer Nigerians’ calls for deliverance from misgovernance and anti-people policies. We, as a party, cannot afford to lose focus and disappoint Nigerians. And so any distraction must be avoided.”
