2023 Presidency: Fayemi Opens Up On What He Knows About Jonathan As APC Member, Consensus Candidate
Ekiti State Governor and 2023 presidential aspirant, Kayode Fayemi has declared he is not aware that former President Goodluck Jonathan is a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The Governor submitted that the official status of former President Goodluck Jonathan in APC is unknown to him.
Naija News reports Gov. Fayemi made the submission during an interview with Arise TV which was released on Thursday amidst the speculations surrounding the rumoured plans by Jonathan to defect to APC and contest the 2023 presidency on the platform of the ruling party.
He made the declaration when he was asked by the anchor about the possibility of Jonathan emerging as the consensus candidate of the APC for the 2023 presidential election.
In his response, Fayemi said “Maybe I don’t have the right information.
“I’m not even aware that former President Goodluck Jonathan is a member of this (APC) party. And if he is a member of this party which I may not know because you join the party at your ward level and I’m not from Bayelsa State so I don’t have details of what is happening at our party level in Bayelsa State.
He added that if Jonathan has joined the 2023 presidential race, the next line of action will be confirmed when his status is confirmed.
“Be that as it may, if former President Jonathan has put his hat in the ring and he is considering to run, we’ll cross that bridge when we get there. I don’t want to speculate on what I don’t have information on,” he added.
The APC presidential primary election to choose the party’s candidate for the 2023 presidency will be held on Sunday, 29th – Monday, 30th of May, 2022.
