2023 Presidency: Ganduje Speaks As Amaechi Visits Kano
Hours after giving him a warm welcome to Kano State, Governor Abdullahi Ganduje has rejected the presidential aspiration of former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi.
Naija News had reported earlier that Amaechi on Tuesday took his presidential campaign to Kano to meet with Governor Ganduje and also delegates of the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the party’s primary elections.
Speaking during the meeting, Amaechi told Ganduje that he (Amaechi) was aware of the governor’s position as far as the party presidential candidature is concerned.
Amaechi said he was, however, in Kano to make him change that position.
Naija News understands that Ganduje is an ally of APC national leader and 2023 presidential hopeful, Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Amaechi, however, said he was more qualified than other presidential aspirants in the party including Vice President Yemi Osinbajo.
According to him, while Osinbajo was a commissioner in Lagos, he (Amaechi) was already a Speaker of Rivers state assembly and ended up as a two-term governor while the VP’s only other appointment after the commissioner was that of the Vice President.
Responding, however, to the presidential aspirant, Ganduje said “Kano is a swing state and we will continue to swing until the end, so try and be part of the swings”.
However, Ganduje commended Amaechi for his endearing efforts in standing with the APC and fighting for it in the wee hours of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidency.
He said, “We are aware how you suffered for our party at the mega movement of its formation, as DG Buhari Campaign Director, we knew how you were harrassed as Governor of Rivers State and how you were at a time denied from flying out from Kano which made you travel to Abuja by road.”
