2023: Tinubu To Unveil His Substantive Running Mate This Week
The presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu will unveil his running mate this week.
Recall that Tinubu had earlier submitted the name of Alhaji Kabiru Masari to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in a placeholder capacity.
Tinubu, who returned to Nigeria from France on Friday, is set to announce the name of his substantive running mate before Friday, according to a source in the Tinubu Campaign Organisation (TCO).
The source who spoke with NAN on Sunday in Abuja also confirmed the statement made by Governor Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano State that the ruling party may be fielding a Muslim-Muslim ticket for the 2023 presidential race.
The TCO member who requested anonymity confirmed that the running mate is a Muslim, former Governor and Senator from the North East region of the country.
“The vice-presidential nominee may most likely be a former governor and senator from the Northeast part of Nigeria.
“The person is also by accident of birth a Muslim, confirming what Gov. Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano State said on Saturday that Tinubu had settled for a Muslim-Muslim ticket,” the source said.
The source added that in picking the running mate, Tinubu was not thinking about religion, but about the competence, exposure and intellectual depth of the candidate.
“The considerations given for the choice of a running mate were dictated by the need to choose an individual capable of working with the presidential candidate to take Nigeria to greater heights,” the source said.
