2023: Why Lalong Was Tipped As Tinubu’s Campaign DG

The reason Governor Simon Lalong of Plateau State was tipped as the Director-General of the presidential campaign council of the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu, has been revealed.

Naija News learned that Lalong, a Northern Christian, is set to be named as Tinubu’s Campaign Director-General following an uproar over the Muslim-Muslim ticket of the APC.

An anonymous source told Daily Trust that Lalong was pencilled down at a meeting on Monday night in Lagos State, which had Tinubu and his running mate, Kashim Shettima and some APC Governors in attendance.

The source stated that it was agreed that Lalong should be announced as the DG in order to pacify the Christian community and woo aggrieved Northern Christians in the APC.

The APC chieftain said the ruling party is united and committed to saving the country from those who want to divide Nigerians along religious lines.

He said: “Yes, Gov Lalong is the DG. The APC is united and we are committed to saving the country from those who want to divide us into religious lines.”

The source added that Lalong’s appointment is subject to the approval of President Muhammadu Buhari and the APC National Working Committee (NWC).

He disclosed that, while Lalong will head Tinubu’s presidential campaign, a former Edo State Governor and ex-National Chairman of the APC, Adams Oshiomhole, will act as his deputy.

Governors who attended the meeting are Abdullahi Ganduje (Kano), Atiku Bagudu (Kebbi), Abubakar Badaru (Jigawa), Bello Matawalle (Zamfara) and Babajide Sanwo-Olu (Lagos).

The National Secretary of APC, Senator Iyiola Omisore, Alhaji Kabiru Masari and Oshiomhole also attended the meeting.
