2023: Why We Held Meetings In London – Ortom, Ikpeazu Speak

Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom has disclosed that the London meetings held during the week by the camp loyal to Governor Nyesom Wike with some 2023 presidential aspirants were very successful.

The Governor revealed that they had three different meetings and all turned out well but everything is focused on how to rescue Nigeria in 2023.

He said Nigeria has been going from top to bottom since 2015 and the country is on oxygen to survive at the moment so all hands must be on deck for the rescue mission.

Naija News reports Ortom made the revelation on Friday at the Port Harcourt International Airport upon his return to Nigeria in the company of Governor Wike and his Abia State counterpart, Okezie Ikpeazu.

He however said no final decision has been made about supporting any candidate for the 2023 presidency as the main agenda of the meeting is how to rescue Nigeria and not about partisan politics.

The Benue Governor said consultations are still ongoing and more meetings will still take place.

He said: “For us, we are looking at the larger picture. Nigeria today is in distress. It is about what can we do. No man or woman alone can get it right for our country.

“We are looking at how we can harness ideas and put ourselves together to ensure that we get out of the present challenge we are in Nigeria today.

“From top to bottom, consider what has happened from 2015 and where we are today. So, what we are doing is a concern that we have for our country, Nigeria.

“This is beyond partisan politics. We are looking on how we can come together and find a way of ensuring that Nigeria survives. Nigeria is on drip, Nigeria is on oxygen and it is about how can we get out of this.”

Speaking further on why the meetings had to take place outside Nigeria, Ortom disclosed that they all had different engagements in Europe and only used the opportunity to meet.

He added “The consultation is going on and will continue to go on. We are still going to meet here. We are still going to meet some persons some other time and see how we can work to ensure that the project Nigeria works.”

On his part, Governor Ikpeazu said the mission to rescue Nigeria is a collective project and all stakeholders are been consulted so the future generation of Nigerians can have a country they are proud of.

In his words, “And this is a country with great potential and we have to protect it well. We think that we need to engage across board.

“We are also looking at speaking with civil society organisations and those who have ideas, with Nigerians in the diaspora. All the resources available in this country has to come together at this time to see how best we can move Nigeria forward.”
