61,384 HIV Patients Placed On Treatment In FCT – Senator Kingibe

The Senator representing the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Ireti Kingibe, has said 61,384 patients of Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) were placed on treatment by FCT administration.

Senator Ireti Kingibe commended the efforts of the FCT administration in assisting in the management of the disease in the capital territory.

In a statement on Wednesday, the FCT Senator said the number demonstrated a proactive and impactful approach to combating public health challenges.

“I commend the FCT Administration and the Health Services and Environment Secretariat for their remarkable progress in addressing the HIV/AIDS epidemic within our territory. Placing 61,384 people on treatment—an impressive 223% of the projected figure—demonstrates a proactive and impactful approach to combating this public health challenge,” she said.

The Labour Party lawmaker further called for sustained efforts from the government by investing in public health infrastructures.

Mrs. Kingibe also emphasized the need for continued awareness and campaigns to educate citizens to reduce new infections.

“This achievement underscores the importance of prioritizing healthcare and ensuring accessibility to treatment for all residents, irrespective of their socioeconomic status.

“I encourage the FCT Administration to sustain this momentum by investing further in public health infrastructure, awareness campaigns, and partnerships with stakeholders to not only maintain this progress but also work towards reducing new infections.

“Together, we must build a healthier, more inclusive FCT where everyone has the opportunity to live a dignified and productive life,” Senator Kingibe added.
