2023 Presidency: PDP Presidential Slot Already Zoned – Babangida

2023 Presidency: PDP Presidential Slot Already Zoned – Babangida

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP has reportedly zoned it’s 2023 presidential slot to the North.

A former Governor of Niger State, Dr. Babangida Aliyu, stated this in a statement on Friday (yesterday), Naija News understands.

According to the party chieftain, the decision was in line with the party’s agreement to allow any candidate contest the 2023 election.

Dr. Babangida Aliyu who spoke while paying host to the Atiku Support Organisation in Minna, Niger State capital yesterday, said he is confident of the success of the group.

Assuring the ASO of his full support, Dr Aliyu maintained that the party’s decision is as a result of the requests of members of the party.

Aliyu said, “In our zoning agreement, we have agreed to re-zone the North as requested by others but we have agreed written openly as a result of what has happened that any candidate from any part of the country can now contest this election.”

He added that the group has done wonderfully well by going round nooks and crannies of the country to ensure that former Vice President Atiku Abubakar emerges as the party flag bearer and is elected President of Nigeria come 2023.

In his remark, the National Coordinator of the group, Dr. Victor Moses, thanked the former governor for his continued support for Atiku Abubakar even as 2023 approaches.

Meanwhile, the nation’s opposition party had said any attempt by President Muhammadu Buhari to present his preferred successor would be rejected by Nigerians.

President Buhari had in an interview with Channels Television on Wednesday said his preferred successor might be eliminated if he reveals the identity of the person before the 2023 general elections, Naija News reports.

Reacting to President Buhari’s comment on Thursday, the opposition party described the Buhari government as a failure, adding that any candidate chosen by the president would also fail.

The PDP made this known in a statement signed by its spokesman, Debo Ologunagba, titled ‘Just Go! Nigerians Don’t Want a Successor From You – PDP Tells Buhari.’

According to the PDP, the figures and achievements released by the president during the interview on Wednesday were false, bogus and an attempt to rationalise his failure in office.
