National Convention: We’ve Not Received Any Notification From APC – INEC
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has disclosed that the All Progressives Congress (APC) has not informed the agency of its plan to hold its National Convention on February 26.
Naija News reports that the Caretaker Committee of the ruling led by its chairman and Governor of Yobe State, Mai Mala Buni, had announced the date for its convention, which has generated controversy within the party.
Following the announcement, the ruling APC is required to obey the Electoral Act and notify INEC of its planned convention at least 21 days before the political event.
With the party’s convention expected to hold in the next 24 days, the APC has yet to inform the electoral agency three days before the deadline and has till February 5 to submit its notification.
In an interview with The PUNCH on Tuesday, INEC Spokesman, Festus Okoye said the ruling party has not yet notified the commission of its intention to hold its convention.
Okoye, however, expressed hope that the APC will comply with the Electoral Act and inform INEC of its upcoming event.
“The commission has not been notified of any convention,” he said.
Meanwhile, the National Reconciliation Committee of the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Monday submitted its report to the leadership of the party at the APC Secretariat in Abuja.
The committee was inaugurated on October 12, 2021, to reconcile, harmonize and integrate members of the party in order to cement all cracks and seeming differences.
Speaking with reporters after submitting his committee’s interim report, a former Governor of Nasarawa State, Senator Abdullahi Adamu, disclosed that more work needs to be done to reconcile aggrieved party faithful across the country.
He said the committee has requested for an additional week to explore avenues of achieving total reconciliation of aggrieved members, stressing that they are able to consider no fewer than 47 petitions filed by aggrieved party faithful from various parts of the country.
Adamu, however, said the caretaker committee of the party is at liberty to decide whether to adhere to the recommendation of his committee or not before the conduct of the national convention.
