Bruno Fernandes Has Signed A New Contract With Manchester United

Portuguese professional footballer, Bruno Fernandes has extended his stay at Manchester United.

The 27-year-old player on Friday signed a new contract with the Red Devils. He will remain at Old Trafford until 2026, with the option of an additional year, Naija News understands.

Chief Manchester United writer for the Manchester Evening News, Samuel Luckhurst confirmed this in a Twitter post on Friday morning.

Naija News understands that Fernandes’ previous deal ran until 2025 with a plus-one option. His new deal means his contract has only increased by a year.

The purpose of the new deal according to Luckhurst is a steep pay rise.

The midfielder has been outstanding since he joined the English Premier League club from Sporting Lisbon in January 2020.

Fernandes’s performance level though has dropped in the ongoing campaign and the player has acknowledged himself.

Meanwhile, the world football governing body, FIFA has reportedly banned the MKO Abiola National Stadium, Abuja, following the invasion and destruction of the stadium facilities.

Naija News reports that angry fans on Tuesday went on a rampage and vandalised stadium facilities in protest of the Super Eagles’ failure to qualify for the Qatar 2022 World Cup.

The angry fans also destroyed other facilities in the 60,000 capacity stadium, despite attempts by security operatives to forestall the breakdown of law and order.

Reacting to the match coordinator’s report on the incident, FIFA banned the stadium from holding international football matches indefinitely.

According to the Guardian, the football body also vowed to impose more sanctions on Nigeria for its failure to provide adequate security during the Super Eagles versus Ghana match.
