2023: Akpabio Speaks On Dumping APC For PDP

The Minister of Niger Delta and Presidential aspirant, Godswill Akpabio on Thursday spoke on the possibility of dumping the All Progressives Congress for the Peoples Democratic Party.

Akpabio during an interview on Channels TV claimed that he can not dump the ruling party for the PDP ahead of the 2023 general election.

He, however, stated that he is not one of those that claim they would die or commit suicide if they decide to return to the PDP.

Akpabio who declared his intention to contest in the 2023 presidential race noted that the APC is his last bus stop.

The former Governor of Akwa Ibom State further stated that APC and the main opposition party are the same, adding that the difference is just the name.

Akpabio when asked what he would do if APC chooses a consensus candidate, he said, “I’ll try my best to see if the person can work with me and all the ideas that I have for the betterment of this country, for the security of this country, I’ll lay them before that person.”

The Minister while speaking on the differences between APC and PDP said, “I wouldn’t say there’s a lot of difference between the APC and the PDP. Maybe just the name.

“In my personal opinion, this side is much more progressive and we thought that the other side were capitalists, but when you have a lot of the capitalists coming into APC, are you going to say that APC is still the same?

“For me, I think that the only difference is that one is in power and one is in opposition.”

Akpabio when asked if he would return to the PDP said, “I won’t be able to go back to the PDP personally.

“But I’m not one of those who said, ‘If I go back I’ll die or ‘should I go back I’ll commit suicide, I’m not one of those people. For me, this is my last bus stop.”

Akpabio dumped PDP in August 2018 after resigning his position as Senate Minority leader.
