Reps To Hold Emergency Plenary Over Emefiele’s Presidential Ambition
The purported presidential ambition of the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele, has created a storm in the House of Representatives.
Naija News learned that the Green Chambers is set to hold an emergency plenary session on Monday to discuss the presidential ambition of the apex bank boss.
Recall that the lower legislative chamber had earlier adjourned sitting till Tuesday, May 24, following the Sallah celebration.
In a statement by the Clerk of the House, Dr Yahaya Danzariya, the emergency plenary session will begin at 2pm and members would express their views regarding the issue and other critical issues of national importance
“It is particularly intended to discuss critical issues of national importance. The House regrets any inconvenience this short notice would have caused”, the statement said.
According to Daily Trust, Emefiele’s allies in the National Assembly were making frantic efforts to reach out to the House Speaker, Femi Gbajabiamila, on the issue
This development comes two days after a coalition group obtained the nomination and expression of interest forms of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) on his behalf.
Reacting, the CBN Governor denied joining the 2023 presidential race and appreciated the groups who obtained the nomination and expression of interest forms for him.
In a series of tweets on Saturday, Emefiele said if he decides to contest, he would use his personal resources to procure the forms. He added that he would take a decision in the days ahead.
