2023 Elections: Emefiele Keeps Mum On Joining APC
The Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele, has refused to confirm his membership in the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Naija News reported that the APC Chairman of Ward 6 in the Ika South Local Government Area of Delta State, Nduka Erikpume, had said Emefiele is a card-carrying member of the party.
Erikpume disclosed that the CBN governor had registered as an APC member since February 2021.
“Yes, he has registered since February 2021. He is our member,” he had said.
This is coming after Emefiele had hired the services of renowned constitutional and human rights lawyer, Mike Ozekhome (SAN), to seek judicial interpretation of his involvement in politics whilst still holding the position as CBN governor.
As of the time of filing this report, Emefiele had yet to react to reports that he is an official member of the ruling party, which negates the CBN Act.
The CBN governor only denied entering the race to succeed President Muhammadu Buhari in 2023.
In a statement on his Twitter handle on Saturday, Emefiele stated that he is yet to decide on his presidential ambition, stressing that he is waiting on God for his next move.
The financial expert disclosed that when he decides to join the presidential race, he would purchase the nomination form himself.
