PDP: You Were Unknown When I Made You Ekiti Deputy Governor – Fayose Tackles Eleka

Former Ekiti State governor, Ayodele Fayose has asked his former Deputy, Prof Kolapo Olusola-Eleka “not to forget history that soon”.

Naija News reports that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential aspirant stated this while reacting to a letter to the party’s leadership by Olusola-Eleka.

In a letter to the PDP National Chairman personally signed, the former Deputy Governor had claimed that he entered the campaign because of pressure from former State Governor Ayodele Fayose.

He claims that the Fayose, who pushed him into the campaign, has since decided to support another contender for the same position.

The letter read in part: “It is expedient to note, however, that the senatorial ambition was the making of former Governor Ayodele Fayose”

“To my great surprise, Mr. Ayodele Fayose, who openly endorsed my candidacy for Senate in my town, discretely aided another person from the same constituency to pick the same senatorial form”.

“I’ve consulted widely and have decided not to dwell where there is no sincerity of purpose but an arrogant display of deception and hence, pulled out from the contest”.

Reacting in a letter of his own to his former Deputy and the PDP NWC, Fayose stated that he never wanted to join issues with Eleka.

He however stated that it is important to set the records straight, especially over his deputy’s use of words like deceitful and arrogant in addressing his person.

The governor asked Olusola-Eleka not to forget history so soon, by allowing himself to be taken over by emotions to the extent that he begins to speak ill of a man he once described as his “greatest political leader.”

Fayose wrote: “Have you forgotten that you were in the classroom when I brought you to be my deputy in 2014 without being part of my emergence as PDP candidate? This is aside the fact that you were unknown to anyone in the party then.

“Then, I was not deceitful and arrogant, but the best if I may quote you rightly.

“Recall it was condition precedent that we will leave office together in 2018. Rather than leaving with you, I endorsed you as PDP Governorship candidate and by the grace of God, you emerged the candidate against all odds and interests. I became the enemy of those who were opposed to your emergence as candidate without being tagged as deceitful and arrogant.”

The PDP chieftain recalled how he worked tirelessly for Eleka’s election as governor, adding that his deputy knows why he eventually didn’t emerge governor of the state.

He added that Kolapo is also aware of the reasons he refused to endorse him as PDP candidate for the 2022 Ekiti governorship election.

Fayose said: “I have become a man you openly disparage, forgetting that everyday is not Christmas. However, I consider this as prize for leadership. Nonetheless, all necessary lessons learnt.

“Interestingly, the public you intend to get their sympathy against me are no fools. They certainly have a sense of history.

“Eleka, as I always call you, I think it is time you do a soul searching and ask yourself what went wrong.”
