2023 Presidency: Jonathan Meets Buhari’s Nephew, Mamman Daura
Former President Goodluck Jonathan on Tuesday met with Mallam Mamman Daura, nephew of President Muhammadu Buhari.
Naija News learned that Jonathan met with Daura, who is regarded as the leader of Cabal, inside the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
It was learned that the former President met with Mallam Daura to seek his endorsement to become the consensus candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The source claimed that Daura and other cabal members promised Jonathan the APC’s automatic ticket during their meeting.
According to the source, the cabal members have told Buhari to back Jonathan as the consensus candidate for APC.
“Goodluck Jonathan has visited Mamma Daura to seek APC consensus candidacy.
“The cabal members have told Buhari to back Jonathan. The President, some NWC members led by the chairman, Adamu, APC governors and other key leaders of the party would soon meet with all the presidential aspirants at the villa.
“The cabals don’t want Tinubu, Osibanjo or Amaechi,” sources told SaharaReporters.
Recall that a Northern coalition had purchased the ruling party’s Presidential Nomination and Expression of Interest forms for the former President.
The forms were purchased days after Jonathan had asked his supporters to “watch out,” when he was asked if he would contest.
He however rejected the gesture, stating that he wasn’t aware of the steps taken by the group neither did he sanction their moves.
If Jonathan eventually joins the race, he would be up against the likes of Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo; Bola Tinubu, a former governor of Lagos; former Minister of Transport, Rotimi Amaechi; Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello; former Minister of State for Education, Emeka Nwajiuba, among others to contest the ruling party’s ticket.
