2023 Elections: Osinbajo Meets Buhari Ahead Of APC Presidential Primary
Vice President and Presidential hopeful, Yemi Osinbajo on Thursday met with President Muhammadu Buhari at the State House.
The meeting was held behind closed doors, shortly before President Buhari departed Abuja to attend the African Union (AU) meeting in Malabo, Equatorial Guinea.
Naija News learned that part of their discussions was the presidential primary of the All Progressives Congress (APC) fixed for May 29 to 30 and the emergence of a consensus candidate.
It is also understood that Osinbajo briefed Buhari on his recent consultations with party delegates and stakeholders across most states of the country.
The meeting comes a few days before the APC’s special convention to elect its presidential candidate for the 2023 general elections.
President Buhari is expected back in the country from Malabo on Saturday, May 28.
As of the time of filing this report, the presidency has not released an official statement on what was discussed during the meeting.
Meanwhile, after serving as a lawmaker five consecutive times, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, has been cleared to go for another term.
A document obtained by newsmen on Thursday, May 26 showed that the Lagosian has been cleared by the All Progressives Congress, APC to seek a return ticket.
Based on records, Gbajabiamila is the second longest-serving member of the House of Representatives in the history of Nigeria behind Nicholas Mutu of Bomadi/Patani Federal Constituency of Delta State who has been a member of the green chamber since 1999.
