APC Sets New Date For Screening Of Presidential Aspirants

The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has set a new date for the screening of its presidential aspirants.

This comes after the ruling party shifted its presidential primary to June 6th and 7th after the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) extended the deadline for the conduct of the presidential primary election.

Naija News learned that the APC will begin the screening of the presidential aspirants on Monday, May 30 and end on Tuesday, May 31.

A panel made up of lawyers in the legal department will look through the documents submitted by the aspirants as well as reports submitted on them by security agencies.

It was gathered that eleven out of the 25 aspirants will be screened on the first day, while the remaining presidential hopefuls will be screened on the second day.

The ruling party is expected to announce its screening committee before Sunday and Governor Rotimi Akeredolu is being tipped as the Chairman of the committee.

Before the shifting of the primary, there was no indication the party was ready to screen its aspirants, 48 hours before the presidential primary.

The party also had not constituted a convention committee and the accreditation committee, leaving the media in a quandary.

Some of the presidential aspirants include APC National Leader, Bola Tinubu; Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo; Senate President Ahmad Lawan; the immediate past Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi; Governor Dave Umahi, Governor Ben Ayade; Governor Badaru Abubakar, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, Senator Ajayi Boroffice and among others
