Vote-Buying: Oyetola’s Team Charges EFCC To Probe Adeleke
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has been charged by the Director-General of Oyetola Campaign Committee, Ajibola Basiru to investigate the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Ademola Adeleke over plan to induce voters.
Basiru charged the anti-graft agency to investigate Adeleke for openly declaring a plan to induce voters ahead of the July 16 governorship election in Osun State.
The lawmaker while addressing newsmen at Oyetola Campaign Office in Osogbo on Monday noted that inducing voters is an electoral offence under the Nigerian Constitution.
Basiru while speaking ahead of the governorship election in the state said, “I expected the EFCC to have invited Senator Ademola Adeleke to give an account of what he meant by coming to the state with hard currencies for the Osun State governorship election.
“Certainly, inducement of voters is a great offence. So, for Senator Adeleke to manifestly declare an intention to induce voters, warrants criminal investigation by the EFCC.
“EFCC should summon him for investigation and questioning by what he meant that he has brought pounds, dollars, euros and other hard currencies to buy votes.
“That is an intention to commit the offence of inducement of voters which is an electoral offence under the Nigerian law.”
