Aide Gives Update On Status Of Iyorchia Ayu As PDP Chairman

The Senior Adviser to Senator Iyorchia Ayu on Communication and Strategy, Simon Imobo-Tswam has maintained that his principal remains the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Imobo-Tswam made the submission on Wednesday after certain reports on social media suggested Ayu has been suspended as the PDP National Chairman over allegations of financial misappropriation.

Debunking the rumours, however, Tswam urged members of the public to ignore such reports, adding that Ayu is only out of the country on vacation and he properly handed over to Deputy National Chairman (North), Amb. Umar Damagun who has been carrying out the duties of the office.

He added that Ayu has been on leave since June 12 and would be back in his position by July 6 to resume duties.

In his words, “Earlier today, mischievous stories broke on the social media to the effect that Ayu has been ‘suspended over allegations of misappropriation.

“The stories further add that the Deputy National Chairman (North), Amb. Umar Damagun, has been appointed in his place in an acting capacity.

“This is supposed to have followed a phantom emergency meeting of the PDP National Working Committee (NWC).

Imobo-Tswam added that Damagun inaugurated the Osun State Gubernatorial Campaign Council on Wednesday in his capacity as the acting chairman of the party.

“It was in that acting capacity that he (Damagun) today, presided over the inauguration of the Osun State Gubernatorial Campaign Council, headed by the Governor of Bayelsa, Douye Diri,” he added.
