Litigation-ridden Kano APC Moves To Appease Members
The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano State in its effort to form a formidable force ahead of 2023 general election, has initiated moves to reconcile aggrieved members, who are challenging the last primary election in the state in court.
However, at a meeting with APC North West Reconciliatory Committee, in Kano, on Thursday, the Secretary, Ibrahim Sarina, said the party is facing eight court cases filed by aggrieved members in the state.
Sarina, therefore, warned the national body of APC against following the steps of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) by refusing to apologise and reconcile with aggrieved members of the party.
He noted that the party has been engulfed in crises since the primary election, as some aggrieved party members left, while others filed cases in different courts across the nation.
He also expressed concern that the litigations could affect the party’s chances of winning the election in 2023.
According to him “The issue of lawsuit is a serious concern because we know how it creates problem to a party. This is not in Kano alone. Court cases against APC are everywhere across the country. We see how APC members drag the party to court in many places in this country.”
He added that “In Kano here, we have at least eight court cases so far. We do not know what is going to happen tomorrow, but we are facing eight court cases in this state, filed by aggrieved party members. This has a repercussion because you could win election but a court judgment would rule against the victory.”
He called on the APC national body to see how it would resolve the court cases.
Sarina said “the crises in APC emanated from primary elections,” noting that some aggrieved members have ground to be angry.
“We should unite to win elections. However, the aggrieved members should be reached out to and be reconciled for us to win election, so that the appointments would come after electoral success,” he added.
He, therefore, disclosed that “we are approaching election season. The issue of grievances is inevitable in a party, but there is need to reconcile and move on.”
