‘Nigeria Is Now At Full Strength’ – Gernot Rohr Laments Ahead Of Benin Vs Super Eagles Clash
Cheetahs of Benin Republic head coach, Gernot Rohr, has acknowledged the challenges his team will face in their upcoming match against the Super Eagles.
After a notable 2-1 victory over the Super Eagles in a June 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying match, Gernot Rohr understands that replicating that success may be difficult this time, particularly as Nigeria is now at full strength.
“Repeating the feat of June is going to be complicated. Because Nigeria is now at full strength. But we believe in it,” Rohr stated during an interview with Foot Africa.
Meanwhile, Gernot Rohr has also expressed concern regarding the absence of some key players for the upcoming 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Nigeria and Libya.
The Cheetahs will be without Cedric Hountondji, Olivier Verdon, Matteo Ahlinvi, and David Kiki. Despite these challenges, Rohr remains positive about his team’s ability to adapt and compete.
“While we would have preferred to have Cedric and Olivier with us, we are prepared to move forward without them,” he told Joueurs Beninois.
Currently, the Cheetahs hold second place in Group B with six points from four matches. They are eager to showcase themselves in the West African derby against the Super Eagles. The highly anticipated match will take place at the Felix Houphouët-Boigny Stadium in Abidjan, starting at 8 p.m. Nigerian time on Thursday, November 14.
Following this encounter, the Benin Republic will face Libya in a crucial qualifying match just four days later.
