Ondo Decides: Early Low Voter Turnout, As INEC Staff Wait For Voters

As Ondo people head to the polls to cast their votes for one of the 16 candidates contesting the state’s governorship election, early low voter turnout is witnessed in some parts of the state.

Naija News reported that Yiaga Africa, a democracy and good governance non-governmental organization, raised concern about low voter turnout in the previous Ondo election during the presentation of their report on pre-election last week.

Yiaga Africa noted that voter turnout was less than 40 percent in the previous Ondo elections.

According to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), as of 8:00 am, voters have yet to come to some polling booths across local governments in the state.

In Polling Unit 003, Registration Area 10 of Akoko South East local government area, INEC staff finished setting up the booth at 7:00 am, but voters have yet to come to vote.

In Polling Unit 007, Registration Area 08, Ondo West local government area, INEC staff finished setting up booth by 7;20 am, but voters have yet to come for voting.

Also, in Polling Unit 21, Registration Area 01 of Ondo West local government area, INEC staff commenced setting up booth and electoral material at 6:25 am, but voters have yet to come to vote.

In Polling Unit 001, Owena Registration Area of Idanre local government area, INEC staff finished setting up booth and electoral materials, but voters have yet to come to vote.
