2023: APC Fixes September For Emergency NEC Meeting
The National Working Committee of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has fixed the first week of September for its emergency National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting.
Naija News reports that the September date for the NEC meeting was chosen at the weekly NWC meeting on Wednesday at the party’s National Secretariat.
It is understood that the date is subject to the approval of President Muhammadu Buhari, who is the leader of the ruling party.
The APC National Chairman, Senator Abdullahi Adamu and National Secretary, Senator Iyiola Omisore are to convey to the proposed date for the NEC meeting to the President.
The NEC meeting became necessary following the expiration of the 90-day transfer of power granted to the NWC by the party’s highest decision-making organ at its 11th meeting on April 20 in Abuja.
In a chat with The Nation, a member of the NWC, who craved anonymity, stated that the party leadership is looking at the first week in September.
He said: “The NWC is looking at the first week in September. This date however is subject to the approval of President Muhammadu Buhari. The National Chairman and National Secretary are to convey to Mr President our proposed date for the NEC meeting.“
When asked to be specific on the date, the source said: “We can not give a date now. The party leadership will consult with the President and clear the date with him. We are not privy to Mr President’s activities, that is why I cannot give the specific date. We have to clear with him and jointly agree on a date.
“We intend to have the NEC meeting before the commencement of the Presidential campaign. We (NWC) have to report our activities in the last 90 days to NEC and equally present for approval of the comprehensive campaign programme for the 2023 general elections.”
