Omokri Reacts As PDP NWC Members Return Millions Paid Into Their Accounts
Former presidential aide and staunch supporter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Reno Omokri, has reacted to the ongoing saga and claims of alleged bribery involving the national working committee (NWC) of the party.
Recall that some letters allegedly written by some members of the PDP NWC indicating the return of the money paid into their accounts surfaced on the internet earlier.
It was revealed in the letter that four PDP NWC members returned the sum of N93.6 million paid into their account by the National Chairman of the party, Iyorchia Ayu.
Reports had it that Ayu paid over N100m into the account of the NWC members after the conduct of the party’s primaries months ago.
Reacting, however, to the ongoing saga, Omokri via his verified Twitter page said the millions of Naira returned by members of the PDP NWC were meant for housing allowances and not for bribery as claimed in the news.
He said there was nothing wrong with money sent to the party chieftains which was perceived differently by the people.
“You are given a letter of appointment that comes with a list of entitlements, one of which is housing allowance.
“Does it make sense for the Peoples Democratic Party to ask people to move from their bases all over the country to work for the party and then not pay them housing allowances?” Omokri argued.
Omokri alleged that supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu, were behind the negative narrative about the money.
According to him, the politicians are deliberate with their actions just to distract attention from Tinubu’s alleged ill-health.
“The non-story of monies paid to PDP NWC members was released by The Nation. This is a coordinated release to divert the public’s attention from Tinubu’s catheter photo mistakenly unveiled today in an own goal by his aides,” Omokri added.
