2023: There Will Be No Need For Citizens To Carry Arms If Atiku Is Elected – Okowa

Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State has said Nigerians will not need to carry arms and protect themselves if the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, is elected in 2023.

The PDP Vice Presidential candidate stated this on Wednesday in his remark at the annual conference of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) held in Abuja.

Okowa pointed out that the PDP will support the creation of State Police and would empower states to address their various security challenges and insecurity in the country.

He said many Nigerians agree that the establishment of state police would reduce the crime rate, lamenting that the Federal Government had remained indifferent on the issue.

According to Okowa, State Police would help in the effective enforcement of anti-open-grazing laws in the states.

The governor added that the citizens will ensure the protection of lives and property in their areas and curb criminal activities.

Okowa affirmed that the PDP would encourage power devolution to the states for better development in the country which would stimulate investment in states across the six regions.
