APC National Convention: Al-Makura Gets Endorsement For National Chairmanship Position
A faction of the All Progressives Congress in Nasarawa State have backed Senator Umaru Tanko Al-Makura to become the next National Chairman of the party.
The group ahead of the party’s national convention threw their weight on the former governor and lawmaker representing Nasarawa South Senatorial District, stating that his achievements in leadership are worthy of replication.
Naija News understands that the stakeholders are members of a political group, Progressives For Umaru Tanko Al-Makura.
Speaking during a Press Conference on Monday in Lafia, the Convener of the group, Makpa Malla, explained that the endorsement was aimed at leaving no citizen of the country in doubt that they were solidly behind Al-Makura to emerge victorious in the forthcoming Extra-ordinary National Convention of the party.
While boasting that the former governor possessed leadership spirit, Malla appealed to the leadership of the party at the National level and other party leaders across the 36 states in the country to consider zoning the office of the national chairman to the North Central.
He said, “Senator Tanko Al-Makura is not only a son of Nasarawa, he is also a nationalist whose legacies and achievements in leadership are worthy of replication on a wider scale. We believe that this step taken today would pave way for the eventual emergence of Al-Makura as National Chairman of our party.”
“We are appealing to the entire leadership structure of our great party that in its much-anticipated guideline for the forthcoming Extra-ordinary National Convention, to consider zoning the office of the national chairman of the party to the north-central, due to the strategic position the zone occupies in the political permutation of the country,” he added.
Naija News recalls that Al-Makura had in early October 2021, at a campaign rally ahead of the party’s council congresses in Nasarawa, declared his interest to become the APC chairman to foster unity in the party.
The Senator representing Nasarawa Central in the National Assembly added that if elected, he will ensure that the APC continues to preserve its values and ideology.
He added that his desire to become the next APC chairman is to safeguard the good tenets of President Muhammadu Buhari administration.
