Aidan O’Brien tells me a surprise name is still in contention to run in the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe
AIDAN O’BRIEN has revealed to me a superstar name is still a surprise ‘possible’ to run in the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe.
Some are still trying to get star stayer Kyprios into the Qatar Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe at Longchamp on October 6.

I’ve already written in this column that has been virtually ruled out, but again spoke to Trainer Aidan O’Brien this morning and I asked him whether Arc plans had been finalised in any way.

The answer to that is “no”.
But O’Brien told me the options, and there was no sign of Kyprios in his thoughts.
“Nothing is finalised,” O’Brien said.
“Los Angeles, Auguste Rodin, Opera Singer, Content, Luxembourg and Continuous are all possible at the moment.”
Auguste Rodin will surprise a few. As most feel he is now being prepared for the Japan Cup. It’s a case of watch this space for the horse who can be backed at as big as 66-1 for the Longchamp feature.

The 2023 Derby winner was last seen finishing second by a neck to Economics in the Irish Champion Stakes.
Arguably the race of the season, it produced one of the finishes of the season as William Haggas’ dual Group 2 winner stepped up to Group 1 level in real gritty fashion.
We’ll next see him at Ascot on Champions Day for the Qipco Champion Stakes – before a possible tilt at the Arc next year.
But it looks like it could still be on the cards for Auguste Rodin next weekend.
