Amaechi’s Ally, Dawari George Dumps APC In Rivers

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State, Dr Dawari George has renounced his membership of the party.

The former commissioner for Energy and Natural Resources under the Rotimi Amaechi’s administration confirmed his resignation from the APC on Friday, July 8, 2022.

Naija News understands that George represented Asari-Toru and Akuku-Toru Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives from 2011 to 2015.

Until the recent development, the politician was still Chairman Peace and Reconciliation Committee of Rivers APC and an ally of the former Minister of Transportation.

He was also one of the governorship aspirants who lost out when the 19 leaders of the party adopted Tonye Cole as the consensus candidate of APC for Rivers 2023 governorship election.

Naija News understands that George’s resignation is contained in a personal letter addressed to the Chairman, APC Ward 1, in Asari-Toru local government of Rivers State.

The letter reads: “May I also thank the leadership of the party and all her members for the opportunity and support given to serve the state and the country in different capacities during my time in the party.

“I will always cherish the friendship and brotherhood which enforced our camaraderie in the party.

“Please accept the assurances of my best regards.”

Meanwhile, former All Progressives Congress (APC) member, Adekunle Akinlade has joined the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun State.

Naija News understands that Akinlade joined the opposition camp just a few days after parting ways with the APC over alleged injustice among other issues.

The politician is a political godson to former Governor of Ogun State, Ibikunle Amosun.

Akinlade was received into the PDP fold at the party’s secretariat along Okemosan, Abeokuta.

Although Amosun have pledged his allegiance to President Muhammadu Buhari and the APC presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu, in spite of the alleged injustice meted out to his camp, most of his followers said they would go with Akinlade.
