APC’s Audit Officer, Ekem Sunday, Dies
The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) on Monday has lost a long-serving worker, Ekem Sunday.
The party mourned the deceased at the national secretariat in Abuja.
The National Publicity Secretary of the APC, Felix Morka, disclosed this in a condolence message.
Sunday, who hailed from Rivers State, died on Saturday after an illness.
He was an audit officer in the accounting department at the party’s national headquarters.
In his tribute on Monday, Morka disclosed that the late accountant will be solely missed for his ‘amiable disposition.’
He said, “A grassroots mobiliser, the late Ekem Sunday volunteered for several APC political support groups that worked for our election successes in Rivers State and the national level.
“He will be sorely missed for his amiable disposition and diligence in the discharge of his duties.
“We express our deepest condolences to his family and the Party’s national secretariat staff over this painful loss. We pray the Almighty God to grant him eternal rest.”
APC Sweeps Ebonyi Local Government Elections
Meanwhile, the Ebonyi Independent Electoral Commission (EBSIEC) has declared the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the winner of all local government areas in the state’s local council elections held on Saturday.
The Chairman of EBSIEC, Jossey Eze, made the announcement on Sunday, confirming that the APC secured victory in all 13 chairmanship seats and 171 ward councillor positions.
Eze disclosed that three political parties participated in the polls: the All Progressives Congress (APC), the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), and the Labour Party (LP).
EBSIEC ratified and adopted the results for the chairmanship positions in the local government areas as announced by the respective councils’ returning officers.
Additionally, the commission approved the councillorship results announced at the electoral wards.
The chairman expressed satisfaction with the peaceful elections and commended the security agencies, electoral officials, and all stakeholders for ensuring a smooth and orderly process.
In his statement, Eze remarked, “The exercise was peaceful and devoid of any significant incidents. We appreciate the security agencies and all stakeholders for their support and cooperation.”
The local government elections witnessed a considerable turnout, with voters actively participating across the state’s 13 local government areas.
Eze said, “I particularly thank the state government for not interfering in the conduct of the elections as this helped in making it credible, free, and fair.
“The election has been won and lost, but the victory is for everybody who participated in the elections.
“The winners should carry everybody along, and everyone should contribute to delivering democratic dividends to people at the grassroots, which the local government areas represent.
“This is the summary of the results as released by the returning officers in all the wards and local government areas: Mr Ebere Nwogba for Abakaliki LGA, Mr Timothy Agha for Afikpo.
“Edda council, Mr Chima Ekumamkama; Mr Chinedu Bernard for Ebonyi LGA. Ezza, Moses Nome; Mr Sunday Nwankwor for Ikwo and Ivo has Mr Emmanuel Ajah, among others.”
