Arewa Joint Committee Speaks On The North Choosing A Presidential Candidate
Arewa Joint Committee says that the North has not endorsed any presidential candidate.
Naija News recalls that six presidential candidates of various political parties, except New Nigerian Peoples Party, (NNPP) Rabiu Kwankaso were at Arewa House, Kaduna on Saturday and Monday for an interactive session with the joint committee comprising of Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF), Arewa House, Sir Ahmadu Bello Memorial Foundation, the Northern Elders Forum (NEF), Arewa Research and Development Project and Jamiyyar Matan Arewa.
Speaking on the meeting via a communique issued to newsmen in Kaduna, the group’s chairman, Mallam Murtala Aliyu said that the interaction was organized to reveal the potential and blueprint of the candidates in the open so that the North and Nigerians can decide who has the best plan for the nation and make the best choice of whom to vote for in the 2023 general elections.
He explained that the reason for the interactions was not to endorse any candidate but to generate commitments to address the challenges of the North by candidates
The communique said, “We plan to extract and publish these commitments so that Nigerians may measure and evaluate candidates against them. Our goal is to afford citizens an opportunity to match candidates against their commitments to matters that are central to the interests of the North.”
The communique noted that the group would continue to call the government to order concerning security of electoral processes and also the surge in organized crime especially in the North which might serve as a hindrance to the region in participating in the election.
