Atiku Vs Wike: Ayu Travels To Europe Amidst PDP Crisis
The National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Iyorchia Ayu, is set to travel to Europe amidst the crisis rocking the opposition party.
Naija News reports that the spokesman to the PDP spokesman, Simon Imobo-Tswam, made this known in a statement issued on Tuesday.
The statement stated that Ayu will be leaving the country on Wednesday and will be out of the country for two weeks.
It added that the Deputy Chairman of the party (North), Iliya Damagun, will be taking over the affairs of the party until his return.
The statement added that the National Chairman has communicated the handover to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The statement read, “The PDP National Chairman, Dr. Iyorchia Ayu, will leave Nigeria for Europe tomorrow (Wednesday).
“Ayu will be out of the country for about two weeks. While away, the Deputy Chairman (North), Iliya Damagun, will act in his place.
“Already, the National Chairman has communicated the handover to the Independent National Electoral Commission. He is expected back at month-end.”
Naija News reports that Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State is angry over the manner of his loss to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar at the presidential primary and the failure of the former Vice President to pick him as running mate.
Governor Wike and his camp have demanded the resignation of the PDP National Chairman, Senator Iyorchia Ayu, in order to resolve the party’s internal wranglings.
However, Ayu has rejected the demand made by the Rivers governor, stressing that he will not resign from his position.
