Calvin Bassey Insists Fulham Deserved Win Over Tottenham Hotspur
Fulham defender Calvin Bassey has argued that the Cottagers were unfortunate to settle for a 1-1 draw against Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.
The match followed a tough loss for Fulham, where they were defeated 4-1 by Wolverhampton Wanderers the previous week. However, the team showed a significant improvement in performance at Tottenham Hotspur’s home ground.
Despite Spurs enjoying a greater share of possession throughout the game, Fulham created more meaningful goal-scoring opportunities.
The turning point in the match came in the 54th minute when Brennan Johnson fired a stunning strike to give Tottenham the lead.
This goal came after Bassey was caught out of position inside the penalty area, allowing Spurs to capitalize on the lapse in defence.
Nevertheless, Fulham responded well to the setback. Just 13 minutes later, Alex Iwobi played a crucial role in the team’s comeback by setting up captain Tom Carney, who slotted home the equalizer with impressive poise.
As the match progressed, the tension mounted when Carney received a red card just seven minutes before the final whistle, leaving Fulham to finish the match with just ten players.
Despite the numerical disadvantage and mounting pressure from the home side, Fulham displayed commendable defensive organization and managed to hold on for a hard-earned point.
In a post-match interview, Bassey reflected on the game, stating, “I think we deserved more from this match. Fraser Forster, Tottenham’s goalkeeper, made some incredible saves—three in particular that could have been goals for us.”
He went on to express his feeling of bad luck regarding the timing of Carney’s red card, especially as Fulham had been building momentum and looking to claim victory.
Bassey, however, remained optimistic, adding, “On the bright side, we managed the game well and didn’t concede a late goal, which has been a recurring issue for us in previous matches.”
