Cameron Menzies reveals he will be back to work as plumber DURING Grand Slam of Darts after scraping through group stage

CAMERON MENZIES he will be back to work at his plumbing job during the Grand Slam of Darts.

The 35-year-old scraped through the group stage despite losing to Beau Greaves – his partner Fallon Sherrock’s big rival.

He also lost to Danny Noppert but a 5-2 win over Martin Schindler sees Menzies progress on legs won.

Menzies will return to action in the second round on Wednesday – once he is finished with his other job.

The Scot works as a plumber and is always at work from Tuesday to Thursday, having reduced his working hours recently.

He told Sky Sports after he progressed at the Grand Slam of Darts: “I don’t work Monday and Friday’s now but I’m back to work tomorrow no matter what happens.

“It’s a bit different being here than it is being with a toolbag.

“Tuesday, Wednesday I’m in [work], hopefully depending how results go but yeah I’m in Tuesday and Wednesday.

“I’m meant to be going to a gig Thursday in Glasgow but hopefully I don’t make it.”

Menzies revealed he penned a new contract with his company that has allowed him to reduce his workload – just in time for the Grand Slam of Darts.

He said: “I’ve just signed a new contract with them.

“I’ve changed my hours so I’m working three days a week now instead of five days which is a lot better for me.

“I asked the office and they were happy to do it – I just had to go to HR.

“They’ve been massively helpful with me.”

At last year’s world championships, Menzies played at Alexandra Palace just hours after carrying out a plumbing job.

Menzies could face partner Sherrock at the world championships next month if they are drawn together in the first round.

And a more hectic darts schedule could eventually lead to him packing in plumbing for good.

He added: “If I start doing more exhibitions and stuff I do think I might have to make a choice.”
