Chuba Okadigbo Airport Ready For Commissioning This Friday – Ebonyi Govt Announces
Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, is expected in Ebonyi State this Friday to commission the Chuba Okadigbo International Airport runway in Onueke, Ezza South Local Government Area.
Governor Francis Nwifuru’s government announced this development in a statement on Thursday.
Notably, the incumbent administration in Ebonyi initiated the rehabilitation of the Chuba Okadigbo Airport runway to align with international standards shortly after taking office one year ago.
Naija News learnt that Governor Nwifuru allocated over ₦17.8 billion to refurbish the longest airport runway in the Southeast region.
Dr. Mrs. Ngozi Obichukwu, the Commissioner for Aviation and Transport Technology, stated following a courtesy visit to the Department of State Services and other security agencies for routine airport surveillance that the state government is fully equipped for the commissioning event.
She emphasized that the First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu’s inauguration of the runway would signify the resumption of full flight operations at the airport.
Obichukwu highlighted that the newly asphalted runway is the longest in the South-East and encouraged travellers to consider Ebonyi for their flights, particularly during the forthcoming Yuletide season.
The commissioner said: “I had an audience with the DSS on routine surveillance of the International Airport, Onueke, in preparation for the commissioning of the asphalted runway by the wife of the president, Senator Oluremi Tinubu.
“Chuba Okadigbo Airport has fully recommenced flight operations, and we call on the general public, travelers, to come here and take their flights. This is because we have the best and longest runway in the South-East region.”
The significant efforts of the state governor, Francis Nwifuru, in ensuring the completion of the runway to meet international standards were also highly praised.
