Devastated owner says ‘we will do everything to save him’ as punters pray for popular racehorse after horrible injury
DEVA RACING have said they’ll do “all they can” for the popular Captain Tom Cat after he picked up a horrible injury on Sunday.
The eight-year-old, trained by Richard Newland, was racing at Market Rasen and was leading heading to the second last.
He was quickly reeled in by the eventual winner Courtland but was set for a valiant second before crashing out at the final fence.
There was immediate concern after such a heavy tumble and although he was reportedly up and okay straight after, his devastated owner confirmed a horrible injury later in the day.
Deva Racing said on Twitter: “Captain Tom Cat has unfortunately ruptured his tendon from his fall at Market Rasen.
“He will travel to Rase Veterinary hospital for further treatment. He’s our star and we will do everything we can to save him.”
It’s likely that Captain Tom Cat’s racing career is now over after this injury, but he has provided his owners some incredible days.
Captain Tom Cat has won seven of his 25 races, including victories at Cheltenham and Aintree.
He was a Graded winner at his peak, making all the running to win the Grade 2 Rising Stars Novices’ Chase at Wincanton in 2021.
His owner Deva Racing is a well-known syndicate who have enjoyed plenty of success in racing.
In total, they’ve had 61 winners on the Flat and 107 over jumps, with prize money of £441,689 and £627,388 respectively.
Some of their horses include Royal Mews, who was placed in Group 3 company at Meydan earlier this year, and Mountbatten, an improving younger horse with Archie Watson.
The likes of Nicky Henderson, Paul Nicholls, Charlie Johnston and Fergal O’Brien have also trained their horses.
