Does Mbappe Guarantee Success Should He Join Real Madrid?
Kylian Mbappe has got himself in a lot of hot water lately. For someone considered the biggest star in football right now, named the best player in the world by his peers, he’s sure to collect a lot of managers and owners’ tears in a jar, with no sympathy.
He has been very vocal about leaving his team, Paris St-Germain, with particular interest in Real Madrid, but PSG have been rightfully reluctant to let go of their best player. But is that the right move for him? Fans betting on football club futures will surely be interested to know where the biggest and best player in the game is going next.
What’s happening?
As mentioned, Mbappe has often expressed openly a desire to get away from PSG, or rather, a desire to join Real Madrid. PSG managed to swipe him from Monaco due to the player expressing a desire to play with the best players in the league. Maybe he got in there and decided there was better in Real Madrid, or perhaps he’s seen the best and ready to see the rest.
As for PSG, Mbappe expressed that he wanted everyone to win in this deal, initially giving the club the opportunity to sell him with a transfer fee, but with PSG rejecting an initial offer, Mbappe has resigned to simply run out the clock on his contract.
Rumours broke out on February 1st that the French player was in fact signing up with Real Madrid to progress with the football season. As yet, no statement has been released by Mbappe or Real Madrid FC, and there isn’t likely to be a confirmation until the PSG and Real Madrid meet in the Champions League round, but sources seem confident that Mbappe has agreed to join Real Madrid as a free agent when his contract runs out next summer.
This blows PSG’s “confidence” that they could convince Mbappe to sign a short-term extension to his contract. The club’s talks apparently weren’t positive enough to keep a hold of the striker when compared to Real Madrid’s wallet.
And it will be the wallet that’s done it. If Madrid’s offer of roughly £42 million wasn’t going to convince him, surely this newly rumoured offer of an eye-watering £200 million did.
Will it work out for him?
Well, if Mbappe is still looking to play with the best players, and these rumours are to be taken as gospel, he will soon have his wish.
It seems like the Frenchman’s eagerness to get away from PSG wasn’t about the club itself, but more looking on the horizon for the next big thing, so it’s likely that his desire to play with the best players in the league is still there. Madrid is known for its long history of obtaining and creating the best football players in the world, with Ronaldo being the first name that comes to mind whenever the subject is mentioned. Until recently, he was a prized Real Madrid player and also named one of the best players of his time.
As for this year’s squad, names like Luka Modric, Toni Kroos, Casemiro, Dani Carvajal and Karim Benzema are synonymous with some of the biggest players in the Champions League and are known as the foundation on which Real Madrid has put its stellar reputation.
This season alone, Real Madrid are leading PSG in points with 15 to PSG’s 11 Champions League points, and four wins to PSG’s three. The two are often put forth as some of the best teams in European football, but this Champions League, although they both have to catch up to Liverpool, Ajax, and Bayern Munich, Madrid are showing PSG up.
Mbappe has already shown what he’s made of, and that he can sit at the big boy table, but if rumours of this contract are true, it will be a test to confirm it.
