Ekiti Election: INEC Releases Important Update On Voting
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has released an important update on the ongoing governorship election in Ekiti State.
Naija News reports that electorates are already trooping out across all Local Government Areas of the state to vote for their preferred candidate for the next era after Governor Kayode Fayemi’s tenure expiration.
Having confirmed the deployment of electoral materials and officials to various polling units earlier, INEC said accreditation and voting shall commence would at 8:30 a.m and close at 2:30 p.m.
“Any registered voter who joins the queue before 2.30p.m would be accredited to vote, but anyone who comes after 2:30 pm would not be allowed to join the queue,” the electoral commission warned ahead of the voting exercise.
INEC had confirmed earlier via its official Twitter handle that accreditation and voting started at exactly 8:30 am at Polling Unit 002, Ward 10, Ado Local Government Area.
The electoral commission reassured citizens of the state that their vote will surely count.
It said further: “Let Your VOICE be Heard by coming out to VOTE peacefully. In case of EMERGENCY, please call INEC on Hotlines: 0700-2255-4632, 09050858629, 09084444333″.
Meanwhile, the Presidential candidate of the New Nigeria People’s Party and national leader of the Kwankwasiya movement, Rabiu Kwankwaso has confirmed the party is in talk with Labour Party presidential flag-bearer, Peter Obi, over a merger.
Naija News reports that the former Kano State Governor confirmed this in an interview with BBC Hausa.
There have been speculations that the NNPP and LP are working towards a third force against the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
While some party insiders have affirmed the possible political shifts, some have described the viral reports as mere speculations.
However, Kwankwaso in a barely three minutes video clip shared by BBC Hausa on Saturday morning, confirmed he is privately deliberating with Obi over the possible merger.
