EPL: Arsenal Launches New Jersey, Gives Martinelli New Shirt Number
English Premier League side, Arsenal have launched a new jersey ahead of the 2022/2023 season.
The North London club announced the development on Thursday, May 19 with the unveiling of its forward, Gabriel Martinelli’s new shirt number.
The Brazilian star player who usually wears the No. 35 shirt for Arsenal has now been handed a new squad number 11.
Having had an impressive performance in the ongoing EPL campaign, Martinelli has now been incorporated into Mikel Arteta’s first squad, taking the place of the likes of Nicolas Pepe and Emile Smith Rowe.
Naija News understands that the 20-year-old scored five times and provided five assists for the Gunners in the 2021/2022 Premier League season.
Most recently, Arsenal’s No.11 shirt has been worn by Martin Odegaard. Meanwhile, the likes of Mesut Ozil, Marc Overmars and Paul Merson have also worn the iconic number.
Naija News understands that Martinelli’s dream shirt number is 14. However, Arsenal could be keeping the number for a big summer signing.
Arsenal’s new jersey carries a new look which includes a striking collar with white sleeves, maintaining its traditional red in the background.
Mike Arteta’s side, Naija News understands would be wearing the new kit for the first time in their final Premier League game of the season on Sunday, at home to Everton.
Meanwhile, former Arsenal player who now plays as a striker for Barcelona striker, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang on Wednesday, announced his retirement from international football.
The Gabon forward in a letter forwarded to Gabonese FA noted that he decided to hang his boot in the international scene after 13 years of representing his country, Naija News reports.
He appreciated the people of his country for their support.
Aubameyang wrote in the letter, “After 13 [thirteen] years of pride in representing my country, I announce that I’m ending my international career.”
