EPL: Jurgen Klopp Fumes Over Liverpool’s 1-0 Defeat To Leicester
Liverpool FC manager, Jurgen Klopp has expressed disappointment after his team was frustrated to fall six points behind rival Manchester City on Tuesday night in the English Premier League competition.
Leicester City gave it all they had last night at the King Power Stadium to beat visiting Liverpool to 1-0, Naija News reports.
The Reds were unavoidably wasteful at the King Power Stadium and the host team who had only a few chances secured their victory with a stunning finish from Ademola Lookman.
Speaking in a post-match interview last night, Klopp was ‘mad’ that his team were have fallen six points behind Pep Guardiola’s side in the title race.
The Reds missed their first hope of victory after Leicester city Kasper Schmeichel saved Mohamed Salah’s first-half penalty kick.
Senegalese footballer star, Sadio Mane also missed a golden chance for Liverpool after the break.
Liverpool has just suffered their second defeat of the 21/22 EPL season games, Naija News understands.
The latest defeat ended Liverpool’s 10-match unbeaten run and they could be given even a wide gap behind Manchester City by the time they play third-placed Chelsea on Sunday.
Reacting on the latest development, Klopp said, “To top that, Chelsea and us play against each other. It was not our plan to give Manchester City the chance to run away. If we play like tonight, we cannot think about catching up with Manchester City.
“If we play our football and we can win games, we can see how many points we can get and what that means.
“I don’t have a proper explanation for tonight – to find it is my main concern, not Manchester City.
“We were not ourselves. We started OK, I didn’t like the intensity even in the beginning but it was the start. Then we lost the rhythm and never found it again.
“We forced it a little bit too early, instead of passing the extra pass. We tried to change that at half-time but for some reason it didn’t click.
“When they scored the goal it was clear we were under pressure, we were pushing them but didn’t use the chances. They deserved the three points.”
Meanwhile, Manchester United has rejected a loan offer from Spanish club, Sevilla for French striker Anthony Martial.
Naija News learned that Sevilla proposed a straight loan deal until the end of the season, paying just half of the player’s £150,000-per-week wages and without any option or obligation to buy.
However, United rejected the offer as they are reluctant for any player to leave on loan and would also prefer any deal to see wages paid in full as well as an additional loan fee.
