‘Erik ten Hag responsible for two of the worst transfers in Man Utd history’, rants club legend Gary Neville

ERIK TEN HAG made two of Manchester United’s worst ever transfers, club legend Gary Neville has claimed.

Dutch coach Ten Hag, 54, was sacked by Red Devils chiefs on Monday morning after a dismal start of the season saw them win just four of 13 games in all competitions.

He spent more than £600million during his two years at Man Utd – where he won the Carabao Cup and FA Cup.

An eighth place finish last season threatened to see him be dismissed, before the victory over Manchester City in the FA Cup final saved his job.

And while the results were the main reason for Ten Hag’s dismissal, Neville also feels the failed transfer business was a factor.

The iconic Man Utd right-back, 49, has cited Casemiro and Antony as some of the worst deals in the club’s history.

Speaking on “It’s Called Soccer!”, he said: “The performances have been really poor this season, the results have been shocking, the league position is terrible.

“His legacy is definitely winning two trophies in two seasons through a very difficult point.

“The recruitment to be fair has been appalling for 10 years and he’s been a victim of that himself.

“I think he oversaw two of the worst transfers Manchester United will ever have made in the signings of Casemiro and Antony.

“They were signed for £140-150m in a panic after the Brentford and Brighton losses. I hope I’m wrong, I hope Casemiro can do a great job for the club for four or five years and I hope Antony comes good.

“But those signings are why United have had to go back into the transfer market and sign [Manuel] Ugarte and other players.

“That was the ultimate in poor management from those above Erik ten Hag. That should have been one big fat no when those two players became available for those prices and those salaries.”

Antony has scored 12 goals and assisted five in 87 games for Man Utd since arriving for £85.5million in 2022.

Casemiro started well in his first season after joining from Real Madrid for £60m, scoring in their Carabao Cup final win over Newcastle.

But he endured a nightmare 2023/24 campaign at the end of which Jamie Carragher urged him to stop playing at the top level.

Earlier this season, during Man Utd’s 3-0 defeat to Liverpool, he once again received heavy criticism after making errors for the opening two goals.
