The Federal Government has introduced a free Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) bus service in Abuja to alleviate transportation costs for residents.
The service commenced on December 2, 2024, with the Presidential CNG Initiative sharing a video of the buses in operation on its official X (formerly Twitter) page.
The buses will ply major routes from Abuja suburbs, including Mararaba, Eagle Square, and Berger bus stop, offering free rides to passengers for the next 40 days.
The initiative, scheduled to conclude on January 6, 2025, aims to provide temporary relief to commuters.
Meanwhile, the Federal Government has said low sulphur fuel and Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) would help to protect the environment.
The Minister of Environment, Balarabe Abbas Lawal, stated this while inaugurating the Inter-Agency Committee on Fuels to promote the use of low sulphur fuel and Compressed Natural Gas in the country, in Abuja
He assured the government would continue to sensitize citizens of the potentials of low sulphur fuel and Compressed Natural Gas in the country.
Lawal noted that the use of cleaner fuel would significantly reduce air pollution and human health challenges caused by high sulphur in petroleum products.
He added that high sulphur concentrations in fuel contribute to the rise in extreme weather, dirty air and other effects of climate change, leading to collaborative action towards ensuring a cleaner fuel, environment and improved public health for our generation.
