‘Fine him a week’s wages,’ blasts furious Roy Keane as he slams ‘so poor’ player’s role for ex-Man Utd star’s goal

ROY KEANE urged Nottingham Forest to fine keeper Matz Sels one week’s wages after Danny Welbeck scored a free-kick for Brighton on Sunday.

Former Manchester United and Arsenal striker Welbeck, 33, fired the Seagulls back in front for a second time at the Amex in a 2-2 draw.

At the end of the first half, he stepped up and whipped his free-kick into the bottom corner for his 70th Premier League goal.

However, Keane was less than impressed that Belgian Sels, 32, stood rooted to the spot as the ball flew in on his side.

And the Red Devils legend went as far as to say he should be docked some of his pay for the error.

Speaking on Sky Sports, Keane said: “He should be fined a week’s wages when that goes in.

“You cannot be beaten on your side. He’s leaning to that side. I’d fine him a week’s wages. It’s so poor. He’s took a gamble leaning to that side.

Danny is a good player and he effects games. He doesn’t take free kicks but he obviously fancied it and he thought he might hit the target.

“But from a goalkeeping point of view it’s not good enough.”

Reacting to Keane’s comments, one social media user said: “Roy Keane doesn’t hold back! He’s right, though – goalkeepers need to step up in those moments.”

Another added: “Roy is the banter king .”

A third replied: “Sels’ mistake was costly and deserving of punishment.”

While a fourth simply responded: “Keane is spot on.”

Ex-Newcastle keeper Sels has played every minute of Forest’s five Premier League games so far this season.

Nuno Espirito Santo‘s side have made an unbeaten start to the campaign, winning two and drawing three.

They sit eighth in the table with games coming up against Fulham and Chelsea before the next international break.
