The Best XI for the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament has emerged two days after the tournament.

Naija News understands that Senegal star, Sadio Mane and Vincent Aboubakar of Cameroon were made strikers in the 4-4-2 match formation.

The formation released by the football statistics website, Whoscored has Nigeria’s star, Moses Simon deployed as an attacking midfielder with Morocco’s Sofiane Boufal (SCO Angers) and Ivory Coast stars, Ibrahim Sangaré (PSV Eindhoven) and Nicolas Pepe (Arsenal) completing the midfield four.

The defence line is contained of Achraf Hakimi (Morocco/PSG), Kalidou Koulibaly (Senegal/Napoli), Abdou Diallo (Senegal/PSG) and Saliou Ciss (Senegal/Nancy).

In the goalpost is Pharaohs of Egypt goalkeeper, Mohamed Gabaski (Egypt/Zamalek).

Naija News reports the 2021 AFCON final match was played on Sunday night between Senegal and Egypt.

The match eventually ended 4-2 in a penalty shootout as Senegal knocked Egypt to win AFCON for the first time in their country’s history.

Meanwhile, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) on Monday announced the appointment of former International Emmanuel Amuneke new head coach of the Super Eagles.

Naija News reports that Amuneke will take over from favourite Augustine Eguavoen who will hold the position of Interim Technical Adviser.

This was made known in a statement by NFF General Secretary Dr Mohammed Sanusi.

Sanusi said the development was part of moves to reconstitute the technical committee of the national team.

It reads: “The NFF Board has approved a recommendation of the Technical and Development Committee retaining Augustine Eguavoen as Technical Director/Technical Adviser (interim) while Emmanuel Amuneke becomes the Chief Coach of the Super Eagles.

“Salisu Yusuf will be the 2nd Assistant Coach/Chief Coach of the CHAN team and Joseph Yobo will be 3rd Assistant while Aloysius Agu remains the Goalkeepers’ Trainer.

“We acknowledge and appreciate the interest that Mr Jose Peseiro has shown in Nigeria Football during our very cordial discussions and have absolutely no doubt about his capacity. We believe that perhaps in the future, there could be an opportunity to work with him.

“However, in view of the positive performance of the Super Eagles at the just-concluded Africa Cup of Nations which has given hope to Nigerians and boosted our confidence in the present coaching crew to qualify us for the World Cup in Qatar, we have decided to accept the recommendation of the Technical and Development Committee to retain the Eguavoen-led coaching crew and strengthen it with the addition of Emmanuel Amuneke.”
