I Want To Coach Super Eagles Again – Augustine Eguavoen

Former interim coach for the Nigeria National Football team, Augustine Eguavoen has expressed hope of managing the Super Eagles again.

Naija News recalls that Eguavoen resigned his position after failing to lead Nigeria to secure a ticket for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

Nigeria’s biggest African rivals, Ghana had held the Super Eagles to a draw in their first and second leg of the World Cup playoff played last month.

The Black Stars held the Super Eagles to a 0-0 draw earlier in Kumasi.

Their second clash at the Moshood Abiola Stadium in Abuja also ended 1-1, a disadvantage for the Nigerian team.

Speaking during SuperSports’ program, Monday Night Football, days after his resignation, Eguavoen said he would take the opportunity to coach the Super Eagles again if he is called upon in the near future.

“If there is still an opportunity for me, I will want to coach the Eagles again, but not at this moment, maybe later,” Eguavoen said.

“If I am called upon to lead the team again, I will definitely take up the job. I am still one of the good coaches in the country. I can still prove a point, it is just a matter of time.

“No regrets taking up the job. When you are called to serve the nation, I could not refuse them,” he added.

Meanwhile, Eguaveon had earlier criticized the federation saying he wasn’t in support of the sack of Gernot Rohr.

As the technical director of the team, Eguaveon said he suggested to the NFF that Gernot Rohr shouldn’t be sacked.

On Monday night football on SuperSports, Ikpeba said: “Eguaveon was not in support of the decision to sack Rohr.

“Yes, I complained about the timing as it was too close to the Africa cup of nations”.
